2005 JCW Mini Cooper - My Toy

Susan and I bought our Mini in 2005. We love this car! It's fun, exciting, and very customized, as all Minis should be. Keep an eye out for more changes...

What the Experts Say

LA Times, 2003: "...The supercharger boost comes on at about 2,500 rpm and then thing goes off like a Waring blender... yanking the car and its rubber-necked passengers to the rpm redline in each gear. The car is bleeding mad with torque from 4,000 to 6,000 rpm (peak torque is 1777 pound-feet at 4,000 rpm) which means that with a well-chosen gear in hand, the nearly 2,700 pound car has a wicked punch."

Yahoo, UK Car Review, 2005: "The Works Cooper S is not a car for the faint-hearted. It is built, or rather, crafted, for the out-and-out enthusiast... It yields mile-after-mile of utter satisfaction, best appreciated in intermediate gears, where the Eaton blowing song is at its most delightfully penetrating...The car fits like a glove, as if the driver is the final component in a specification intended to re-enact the thrills and sensations of track driving."

Road and Track, 2002: "Our slalom test revealed that the Mini can thread through the cones with moderate understeer and keep a blistering average speed of 67.6 mph, besting any current BMW, any Ferrari, and most Porches."

Why I drive with this license plate

Anyone interested in marketing will appreciate that Mini's marketing team redefined a common term and made it their own:

"Motoring is the enlightened form of driving. It is about exploration, discovery and exhilaration. MINI is the perfect car for exploration; Motoring in a MINI feels more like riding a motorcycle than driving an SUV. It's about going from A to Z instead of just A to B: taking the long road home, just for the fun of it.

Motoring is all-inclusive - it is genderless, ageless and is not concerned with social status. MINI is a unique car in terms of driving appeal, looks and size, and as such is deserving of its own term for 'going'. In looking for this new word, ... The invitation to go motoring is 'Let's Motor'.  Historically, 'motoring' has British overtones, which calls on the MINI heritage, although it has primarily been chosen as it represents MINI's spirit of action and adventure.

Motoring can be further defined by comparing it to driving. While driving as a term is about cars and the road, Motoring is a unifying religion, a new more enlightened form of driving that takes advice from the backseat and let's people in our lanes. When one drives a MINI, one's outlook on life changes. And so the world becomes a better place... arch on Motoring

Minis on the Dragon

For three years I made the trek to North Carolina with 500+ other Minis to run the Dragon.

318 curves in 11 miles --- (exactly what the Mini is made for) --- some of it caught on video.

Mini Motoring Club

I have stepped down from the Board of the Chicago Mini Motoring Club, but still enjoy this great group of Mini enthusiasts. Each year I still host the annual CMMC Holiday Party.
